movement electronic music festival

Detroit’s premier Electronic music event, has gone through a couple of name changes (and organisers such as Carl Craig, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson)  since it initially started in 2000 as The Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Yet another edition has been successfully staged this year under Paxahau who took over as organiser in 2006 and re-named the event ‘Movement Electronic Music Festival’. The Detroit Festival is a celebration of Techno music in its birthplace (Detroit) and it’s been happening at Hart Plaza since inception. Every Memorial Day weekend thousands of Techno and electronic dance music heads (in general) flock into the Motor City to attend one of the biggest and- historically- richest EDM festivals in the world.  The massive influx of people attending the festival every year has had a positive impact on tourism and the economy of the city at large. The MEMF has been praised for its consistency and free spirit environment; and this has encouraged brands like Red Bull and Beatport to join in and add more resources. In 2013, the 3 day festival ‘s artist roster comprised of names like Richie Hawtin, Masters At Work, Dennis Ferrer, Magda, Terrence Parker, Ben Sims and of course local boys Derrick May, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson, Moodymann who were all spread between five massive stages. Here’s a two minute video to see what went down at Movement in slow motion and some pics from the Red Bull stage.
